Cordel Dennis Fowler, affectionately known as “Corky”, was born on March 20th, 1991. His parents were worried when he struggled to walk correctly in his early days. However, his determination to walk in life led him to exceed his parents' expectations. He excelled in several sports, including track, basketball, swimming and martial arts. He attended the University of Detroit Jesuit High School & Academy (UofD), where he played basketball from 7th through 12th grade. By graduation, he was a two-sport Varsity athlete with All-Regional and All-State recognition in Track and Field.
Though Cordel received college scholarships to run track, he decided to focus full-time on his Academics at Morehouse College. Over time, he discovered a fresh zeal within the weight room, committing himself steadfastly to his exercise regimen. He also relished participating in 3-on-3 Basketball tournaments, notably the UofD Alumni Basketball events. Cordel's close friends and family knew him for his "Never Give Up" attitude. He never backed down from anything he believed was right, no matter what or who was against him.
Cordel deeply loved the Lord, which began at an early age. He sang in the choir, attended Sunday school, and performed in plays at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. After graduating from UofD, he attended the Kairo Spiritual Retreat. He was often spotted in the church chapel by his friends at Morehouse, he found solace in prayer. His devotion to attending church remained unwavering regardless of his whereabouts.
On January 9th, 2016, Cordel "Corky" Dennis Fowler passed away in a tragic motor vehicle accident, a departure that left many hearts heavy with sorrow. In remembrance, Cordel's Cleats For Kids was founded as a nonprofit 501C3 organization, dedicated to youth development and imparting the invaluable "Never Give Up" attitude.
